ESL Electronic price tags used as online adjustable display

Electronic product labelling (ESL) is a system used primarily by retailers to display product prices on shelves. The fully graphical display can be remotely updated several times a day using wireless technology.

Automated merchandise labeling systems reduce costs - increasing labeling speed and price accuracy. They have the great advantage of being able to change the information they carry online. It is therefore possible to change the price from the head office in relation to a discount or, conversely, to an increase in price before the season - for example, swimwear becomes cheaper in the autumn but more expensive in the spring. In all your stores you are guaranteed that the goods are well priced.

But these electronic price tags can also be used in other ways. For example, in industry. Whenever you need to have information in the field, on the shop floor, that is dependent on information from a computer or database...and it is variable. You can read more in an article that describes the way price tags are used in one Czech engineering company, where they were used as a carrier of information whether a machine has passed the mandatory calibration.

Meeting room management is also possible with ESL. It is not necessary to rewrite the signs with a pen, it is enough to have, for example, an OPT-ESL-EE-420R display at the door, which can show the calendar, but also whether it is free / occupied, etc. However, the displays can also be used with patients in hospitals, on trains and buses, in distribution and supply halls, in sports locker rooms, as an indication of the status of a hotel room...

The variability of use of E-ink displays is limited only by the colours on the display (black and red on white). If three colours are not enough for you, you can also include larger full-colour displays among the managed displays .

The advantage is that the power supply is not mains powered but battery powered. Displays from Opticon (e.g. OPT-ESL-EE-150R) run even in temperatures just above freezing (we tested them in a refrigerated counter in a butcher shop), their size varies and they work within the range of the base station, which has a range similar to the classic wifi. So a base station(OPT-ESL-EBS-40) is always needed to control it, which transmits data in a specific compressed form and at regular intervals. This makes the battery life over two years and even after that the battery is user replaceable.
