Mobile Store in Neomed

Implementation of the MOBILE STORE® ONLINE system for the ABRA enterprise information system

About the company:

NEOMED s.r.o., Sodomkova 1474/6, Prague 10

NEOMED s.r.o. is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the Czech Republic, operating on the Czech market since 1998. The company's core business is ophthalmology, where it is the exclusive distributor of Allergan (pharmaceuticals), AMO (eye microsurgery) and CooperVision (contact lenses). Equally important for NEOMED is the field of aesthetic medicine and neurology.

Project location:

Prague

Project objectives:

To secure the warehouse operation using the MOBILE STORE® ONLINE software package using the GS1 - 128 composite barcode for the ABRA real-time information system.

Project Description:

NEOMED uses not only simple (e.g. EAN) but also composite barcodes in its warehouses. The advantage of a composite barcode (e.g. GS1-128) is that, unlike a simple barcode, you enter multiple items into the database at once. With a simple barcode (such as the aforementioned EAN or Code 128, Interleaved 2 of 5...) you only ever enter one item into your database after reading the code.Usually there is a product code in it. When you need additional data such as number of pieces on the pallet, batch, expiration date, etc; you enter this data into the computer manually. By using GS1 - 128 composite code you can store all this data in one composite barcode. By scanning a single composite code, you can then enter all items into your database at once. Item code, batch, number of pieces on the pallet and expiry date. With a single scan of the code, you get this data into the structure of your database and in a very high quality form (without errors or typos caused by manual entry). All standards for the use of the GS1-128 code are maintained, distributed and explained by GS1 Czech Republic.

The need for fast and error-free code processing was applied to the information system by NEOMED. It is essential for the company to stock according to batches and expiration dates, and confusion of shipped goods is highly undesirable. NEOMED works with similar material to hospital supplies and therefore confusion with other types of goods of different expiry or batch needed to be almost eliminated. For this reason, they first approached GS1 Czech Republic, which analysed all the supplier codes. The analysis became the basis for the application of GS1 - 128 codes.

The data needs to be entered into the system immediately in real time (do not use batch data transfer) and the removal ofm one barcode to store immediately in the system not only the data about the goods, but also the data about the batch and expiry date. Therefore, the company decided to change the original solution using batch terminals and chose the MOBILE STORE® superstructure from CODEWARE.

NEOMED uses the GS1 - 128 code, for example, when checking goods for the customer, checking the batch and expiry date. The warehouseman picks the goods according to the delivery note. The barcode of the delivery note is scanned and the items of this delivery note are displayed in the reader. The warehouseman takes the folded GS1 - 128 barcode and MOBILE STORE® compares whether the batch and expiry date on the goods are the same as on the delivery note. If the validation is positive, the warehouseman takes another barcode from the goods picked for the customer and continues the comparison. After the comparison is completed, the delivery note is marked in the system as validated with the information added to it - the name of the validator, i.e. the warehouseman. In case the validation does not match, i.e. the warehouseman has selected different goods from the warehouse, a different batch or a different expiry date than the delivery note the delivery note, the barcode scanner will notify the warehouseman of the error and he must correct the error by searching for the correct goods.

At NEOMED, most warehouse operations are controlled. All data is processed in real time, so the minimal error rate is compounded by the time speed of data transfer. The company is continuously expanding its technology, as it means big savings for the company, for example in transport costs. The company's customers always receive the right goods, which not only increases the company's prestige but also customer satisfaction - and this is NEOMED's primary goal.
